IPOH: The giant posters of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in areas like Tambun, Manjoi and Meru Raya could pose a safety hazard, says Barisan Nasional's Tambun candidate Datuk Aminuddin Md Hanafiah.
Aminuddin said that he has seen how scaffolding was used to prop up the posters and added that wood was used to hold the posters on the ground.
"We have strong winds coming with the monsoon season. So there is a possibility that the posters may fall and affect other people on the ground," he said.
"I have asked a monitoring team from the Election Commission (EC) to look into the matter," Aminuddin added when met during an event with Puteri Umno on Sunday (Nov 13).
He said that he was not jealous of the posters of the PKR president in any way.
"I am just concerned if something unfortunate happens because it may make people hate all other political parties," he said.
Anwar is challenging Aminuddin and incumbent Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu for the Tambun parliamentary seat.
On posters in general, Aminuddin said that those such as the ones set up by Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu's camp do not guarantee election victory.
"What matters on polling day are the votes on the ballot papers," he said.
In a statement to the media, Perak EC director Mohd Nazri Ismail said that the size of campaigning material is not an issue as long as the publisher's name is stated.
He also said the material cannot be set up at a location that may pose a danger to others.
"The material also cannot contain any content that may provoke or be slanderous towards (any) individuals," he said.
He added that anyone found to have violated the general election campaigning guidelines will be issued a notice and EC officers on the ground will remove the material.
