GE15: Coming polls a good opportunity to fight for state rights in Parliament, says Sarawak Deputy Premier

KUCHING: The coming 15th General Election (GE15) is an opportunity for Sarawak to gain a stronger voice in Parliament to fight for the state's rights, says Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian (pic).

The Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) president urged Sarawakians to give their support to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the polls.

"Sarawakians finally have a chance, after 59 years (since Malaysia's formation), to fight for what is ours under the Malaysia Agreement 1963, including health and education autonomy, one-third of parliamentary seats for Sabah and Sarawak and a bigger share of our rightful financial allocations.

"This is our chance of coming together in unity to send a strong team of GPS MPs to the next Parliament," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 10).

Dr Sim also said Malaysia needed a strong and stable government in the face of global uncertainty.

"Not three prime ministers in five years. Enough of the daily politics, division and hatred," he added.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had consented to the dissolution of Parliament on Monday (Oct 10).

This will pave the way for GE15 to be held within 60 days.

GPS, which consists of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), SUPP, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), had 19 MPs in the just-dissolved Parliament.

Sarawak has 31 parliamentary seats.
