JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) is keen to work closely with Pakatan Harapan in the 15th General Election (GE15), says Amira Aisya Abd Aziz.

The Muda deputy president, who is also Puteri Wangsa assemblyman, said that the party believed in working together with other parties that shared the same values they held.

"Muda still believes that as we move towards the next general election, we cannot be working alone.

"We need to work together with friends that share the same principles and policies.

"As such, there is a possibility that we will be working with Pakatan as we did during the previous Johor state election.

"However, that is not a decision for Muda to make on its own and we need to also discuss with other parties," she told the press when met at Flat Taman Mount Austin here Friday (Sept 2).

She said this when asked whether the party was looking at working with Pakatan or contesting solo in GE15.

Asked if discussions on seat negotiations between Muda and Pakatan had started, Amira acknowledged that it has yet to kick-off and that the focus for the party at the moment was to strengthen itself.

"If the equation is similar to the previous Johor election, then Pakatan as a coalition will begin discussions among themselves first.

"We hope that they will also later have another discussion with us. We do not want there to be any divisions as we move towards GE15," she said.

She also noted that Muda would try to avoid any seat clashes with any parties under Pakatan.

"Of course, we do not want what happened during the state election to repeat itself.

"We hope that discussions with Pakatan would be more open this time so that we could avoid such things from happening again," she said.

During the Johor state election, Muda contested in seven state seats and won one seat - the Puteri Wangsa seat.

Among other seats it contested include the Larkin seat, which saw a six-cornered fight, with one of the candidates, PKR's Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain representing Pakatan.
