No notice received on LCS protest yet, say police


KUALA LUMPUR: Police have not received any notice for a planned demonstration over the controversial littoral combat ship (LCS) project.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said they have yet to receive any word from the organisers over the proposed gathering.

"Yes, we are aware that there is talk that a rally will be taking place on Sunday (Aug 14) but the organisers have not come forward to give us notice yet.

"We urge the public not to attend such demonstrations," he said when contacted on Friday (Aug 12).

He added that action would be taken against anyone who intentionally breaks the law and police would take necessary measures to ensure public order and safety.

"We will have personnel on duty on that day to ensure no untoward incidents occur.

"That said, we hope that the public heeds our advice and refrain from taking part in this event," he said.

The protest is expected to take place at 2pm outside the Sogo shopping complex at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

The protest is being organised by a group called Jawatankuasa Protes Mana Kapal LCS.

The group is demanding that the government take action and call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the matter. among others.
