KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry has signed a letter of acceptance (LOA) with MBDA France for the procurement of a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system during the Farnborough International Airshow 2026 in the United Kingdom on Monday (July 20).

It said the document was signed by its secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali and MBDA France to enhance the weapons capability of the Navy's Littoral Combat Ships (LCS).

"The procurement forms an important complementary contract for the LCS project, ensuring the vessels are equipped with air defence capabilities that meet the Navy's operational requirements.

"The signing of the LOA reflects the government's continued commitment to strengthening the country's strategic maritime defence capabilities to address current geopolitical challenges," it said in a Facebook post. - Bernama
