Sabah Umno divisions need propose five names each for GE15 candidates, says Bung Moktar

KOTA KINABALU: All Umno divisions in Sabah are asked to propose five names of candidates for the coming general elections.

Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the list of names must be given to the state liaison committee immediately for early screening.

"The names proposed must be submitted immediately. It doesn’t matter if the proposed names are those with positions in the party or not because what matters more is that they are capable," he said.

He said this after chairing a special meeting on Tuesday (Aug 9) night.

Bung said the concept used to select the candidates is 'Wali' which is winnable, acceptable (by the people) and likeable.

He said every name given would be screened through by a special committee based on feedback from the grassroots, observation from members of the special committee and reports from certain agencies.

This was to ensure that the selected candidates were those who deserved it.

Bung said the personality of a candidate would be the main element seen by the people and this should be the main criteria for Umno and Barisan Nasional.

He said winnability has to be the focus even though the person might not have a post in the party.

He also urged Umno division leaders to update their electoral list and to identify new and young voters in their own areas as these voters would play a part in GE15.

"Make sure the electoral lists in your areas are updated and a dry run simulation should be held to prepare for GE15," Bung said.

He said hard and consistent work must be put in to ensure that voters choose and remember to vote for Barisan and Umno candidates during elections.

He reminded all party leaders and members to work together and support each other and take part in party programmes to foster better unity and understanding among themselves.

Bung said this was one way to ensure a stronger Barisan and better winning chances for the party.
