Northern region hit by blackouts, power restored in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: There were minor power disruptions reported in the northern region, as Kedah and Penang faced outages at certain locations.

Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ) in a post on social media said they were experiencing electricity supply interruptions on Wednesday (July 27) afternoon.

In a post on their official Facebook page at around 1pm, they said repair works were in progress as there was a power outage.

"All transactions at the Kedah JPJ counters could not be carried out for the time being.

"We apologise for the inconvenience," they said.

In Penang, there were some outages but it was restored at around 1.14pm on Wednesday (July 27).

Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) issued a general statement on their page stating that certain places including Bayan Lepas and Seberang Jaya in Penang were affected but restored within 20 to 40 minutes.

Other places affected nationwide based on the statement are Petaling Jaya, Cheras, Bangi, in Kuala Lumpur, Panchor in Johor, and Bandar Indera Mahkota in Pahang.

The supply was fully restored in all affected areas except for the affected areas in the Klang Valley.

The statement read that the cause of the outage is still being investigated and they are carrying out works to restore the power in other states.

"The power outage occurred at 12.39pm on Wednesday, involving 2.2 gigawatts (GW) which is 10% of the entire supply demand," it read.

It was reported that areas throughout the Klang Valley are reportedly experiencing power outages on Wednesday (July 27), with confirmed blackouts in Bangsar, Cheras, Shah Alam and beyond.
