Comedy club case: Co-founder expected to be charged on July 22


KUALA LUMPUR: The 39-year-old Crackhouse Comedy Club co-founder is expected to be charged on Friday (July 22) in connection with videos that allegedly touched on racial sensitivities.

In a statement, Bukit Aman said the suspect will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Cyber Crime Court tomorrow.

"He was being investigated over videos of comedic performances that made fun of races.

"He will be charged under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," the police said.

The suspect was previously detained and held at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on July 14 over the videos.

investigations were carried out by the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The suspect was then released on police bail on July 15 following a one-day remand order.

Several police reports were lodged against the suspect following a woman's controversial performance at the club recently.
