KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Chinese community is eager for Covid-19 restrictions – that have limited flights between Malaysia and China, for example – to be lifted soon following the visit of Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi.
Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) president Tan Sri Goh Tian Chuan said enabling physical activities in bilateral trade and tourism could speed up the economic revival process of both nations.
"Since the pandemic is under better control now, we hope that Malaysia and China will lift Covid-19 restrictions," he added.
Besides bilateral trade, tourism and education, Goh said there are many more that the two nations could collaborate in and these include pandemic control and prevention, vaccine development as well as in the field of science and technology.
Wang Yi was in Malaysia on a two-day official visit. He arrived on Monday (July 11).
During his stay, the Chinese diplomat said China would import more Malaysian palm oil, fruits and other agricultural products.
He also said the country was planning to increase the number of direct flights between Malaysia and China while making arrangements for Malaysian students to resume physical classes at Chinese universities.
Goh, who is also a director of the Malaysia-China Business Council, welcomed the good news.
