A HINDU temple in Klang narrowly escaped a burglary attempt when the perpetrators were startled by the priest, Makkal Osai reported.
Taman Bayu Perdana Devi Maha Kaliamman temple caretaker and priest Saravanan Muniandy said he was awoken at around 4.30am on Thursday and shocked to see two men inside the temple.
One of them threw a rock at the priest, which narrowly missed him. They then fled before he could turn on the lights.
They had apparently cut through the fence surrounding the temple to enter its premises.
Saravanan said it wasn’t the first attempted burglary there, adding that the temple is surrounded by overgrown bush on unused land, which makes it convenient for theft.
The temple committee is planning to clear the bushes, and plant trees and flowering plants on the land.
> A lorry driver in Sri Lanka was found dead after waiting five days in line to refuel his truck, Makkal Osai also reported.
A couple of days ago, the 63-year-old was found lifeless in his lorry with early reports suggesting a heart attack as the cause of death.
This is the 10th such case of ‘death by waiting’ in the island nation crippled by an economic collapse that has caused massive queues and waiting times for everything.
In another incident, a group of women beat up and chased away thugs believed to be trying to take over a ration distribution centre.
Many reports have emerged of gangsters allegedly blocking and monopolising fuel ration distribution operations.
