JOHOR BARU: Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rumah Bonda Kuala Lumpur was sealed as the premises were not registered with the authorities, says Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun.
She said the ministry also did not receive any appeal to register from the association even after the action was taken against the premises.
“We sealed the place as it had never been registered with the Welfare Department, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the local council, which are the three main technical government agencies.
“These are the terms and conditions set by the ministry that must be fulfilled by any NGO if they wish to operate a welfare centre,” she said after visiting Rumah Kanak Kanak Mini Ulu Tiram near here on Saturday (June 11).
Rina said this when asked to comment on Rumah Bonda chairperson and founder Siti Bainun Ahd Razali’s move seeking a court order to unseal the property after the premises had to be left vacant for almost a year.
“That is her right (to file for a court order) and we will follow this process (court action).
“But we have given Rumah Bonda a reminder (before), and we were hoping that even after the place was sealed, they would come forward and register their premises, but we have not received any application until today,” she added.
Earlier, it was reported that Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rumah Bonda Kuala Lumpur had filed for a court order to unseal its property.
Siti Bainun had named the Kuala Lumpur Welfare Department (JKMWPKL) director as the sole defendant in the legal action.
The originating summons was filed through Messrs Asiah Abd Jalil Law Chambers on June 7.
Siti Bainun, 30, is currently on trial for two charges of neglecting and abusing a 13-year-old Down Syndrome girl named Bella, to the point of the victim suffering injuries and emotional trauma.
The trial attracted nationwide attention, including from Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who appointed lawyers to hold a watching brief in the trial.
