Remand order extended on boyfriend of murder victim

IPOH: Police have obtained an extension on the remand of the boyfriend of a woman whose charred remains were found on a riverbank in Kampung Talang Hulu in Kuala Kangsar.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said they applied for and were granted a six-day extension of the order until Thursday (June 16).

Comm Mior Faridalathrash said police were confident that the 20-year-old was connected to the case.

"It is still (too) early to say that he is a prime suspect, but he is related (to the case).

"From information we gathered, when the victim went out, it was either with her family or the boyfriend," he told a press conference in Greentown here on Friday (June 10).

"The four other men detained earlier are still in custody until Monday (June 13).

"We are still trying to determine the motive," he added.

On May 31, the burnt body of the 21-year-old woman was discovered on the Sungai Kuala Kangsar riverbank by a passer-by.

The boyfriend was arrested on June 1 after his statement was taken while the four men were detained on June 7.

A piece of concrete with traces of blood found near the body is believed to be the weapon used in the crime.

Comm Mior Faridalathrash also shot down claims that the victim was pregnant.

"It is only speculation on social media.

"The post-mortem did not show that she was pregnant," he said.

"There was an incident in India whereby a woman was gang-raped and burned, and some people on social media tried to relate it to this case," he added.
