MERSING: Two of the four divers who went missing off Pulau Tokong Sanggol were found alive by fishermen at 1am on Saturday (April 9) morning, says Mersing OCPD Supt Cyril Edward Nuing.

He said the two - British national Adrian Peter Chesters, 46 and French national Alexia Alexandra Molina, 18 - were found in waters south of Pengerang in Kota Tinggi near the Indonesian border.

With this, the focus of the search and rescue (SAR) operation is 14-year-old Dutch citizen Nathen Renze Chesters, who is the son of the British national who was rescued.

“Both of them were found by local fishermen. They then alerted the police and both were then transported by the Southern Region Two Marine Police to shore," said Supt Cyril.

"Both of them are currently being treated at a private hospital in Pasir Gudang and are in stable condition," he added during a press conference at the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation centre at the Mersing Public Jetty.

On the missing teenager, Supt Cyril said that the search will be concentrated in waters further south off Pengerang.

"As of now, we have received no information on his whereabouts. The details of the exact location where they were found are currently being investigated,” he added.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Mersing director Khairul Nizam Misran said that the number of SAR assets is almost the same as Friday.

“Everything is the same except we do not have the Bombardier aircraft today," he said.

“Our initial SAR location for today is supposed to be from east of Desaru until the southeast of Johor, but has now been changed to the southeast of Johor towards south of Tanjung Pengelih near Pengerang," added Khairul Nizam.

He said that a notice has been sent to all merchant and fishing vessels that are passing through the area to be on the lookout and added that the MMEA's Indonesian and Singaporean counterparts have been alerted as well.

Earlier, one of the four European divers who went missing on Wednesday (April 6), 35-year-old Norwegian divemaster Kristine Grodem was rescued some 20 hours after a SAR mission was launched and about 55km away from the dive site.

Grodem was found floating, complete with her diving suit and equipment, by a tugboat heading to Thailand from Indonesia on Thursday (April 7) at 8.15am.

The four were last seen on Pulau Tokong Sanggol before a scuba diving exercise near the island, which is nine nautical miles (16km) from the Johor mainland.
