Johor polls: Do the right thing, say the right words, Pontian MCA chief tells candidates

PONTIAN: Local leaders and election candidates have been reminded to be sincere and do the right thing in order to win the support of voters, says Datuk Tee Siew Kiong.

The Pontian MCA chief said all sorts of information were available at the people’s fingertips in this day and age, so leaders must do their research before taking action.

“This also means that saying one wrong word could spread far and wide, so we should be careful and avoid talking nonsense too.

“As we are in the field of social work, we must behave and act with a clear conscience when carrying out our tasks,” he said after chairing a meeting with the division election steering committee on Thursday (March 3).

At the meeting, Tee also introduced Barisan Nasional candidate for the Pulai Sebatang state seat Hasrunizah Hassan to the division’s members.

Tee, who is a former Pulai Sebatang assemblyman, also told the division to make sure that voters head out to vote in the state polls on March 12.

“Caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad is defending his Benut seat, so we should do our best to ensure victory in both Pulai Sebatang and Benut for him to continue leading Bangsa Johor,” he said.

Hasrunizah, who is the Pontian Wanita Umno chief, paid tribute to Tee, saying that despite not being fielded as a candidate, he had been generous in lending his support and assistance.

“He shared some valuable experiences with me and for that, I am grateful.

“I will continue to promote plans for the constituency and take care of all groups to ensure that nobody is left behind,” she said.

Johor will go to the polls after a 14-day campaigning period.
