Johor polls: DAP incumbents to defend Bentayan, Pekan Nanas, Saleng branch chief for Senai

KULAI: Ng Yak Howe and Yeo Tung Siong will be defending their Bentayan and Pekan Nanas seats respectively.

Making the announcement, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said here on Saturday (Feb 19), that the coming state election is crucial to ensure that the state and Federal Governments will be led by governments willing to fight for the rights of the people.

“The important thing for the party right now is for each and every member to give their full support to us and help those who have been named as the candidates to win in the coming state election,” he said during a press conference at the new Johor DAP Headquarters in Jalan Enggang.

On the possibility of PKR and Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) contesting for the same seats, Lim said he hoped that the two parties would not clash.

“Currently, there is no outcome from their discussion... We just have to wait and see,” he added.

Lim also informed that DAP had no issues with Parti Warisan contesting in the Johor election.

“We leave the matter to the wisdom of the voters,” he said, adding that DAP had no relationship with Warisan.

Meanwhile, Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong said that any candidate announcements could only be made by the DAP secretary-general.

“Announcements will be made before nomination day on Feb 26,” he said, adding that he had always contested parliamentary seats.

In GE14, Liew contested the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat and went up against MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong. Liew lost by 303 votes.
