Floods: Unite to overcome natural disasters, says Armed Forces chief

SHAH ALAM: It is time for all Malaysians to unite in facing the devastating floods, says Tan Sri Jeneral Affendi Buang.

The Armed Forces chief said it was not the time for anyone to claim credit in managing the disaster or saving lives.

"Don't do this for the mileage and don't take advantage (of the situation).

"All Malaysians should pool their efforts to save others," he told a press conference at the flood operations centre in Taman Sri Muda on Thursday (Dec 23).

Asked whether the government had acted fast enough in responding to the flood situation, he said: "We have a system in place (for flood operations) and every agency must work together.

"Shortcomings are bound to occur even in countries like the United States, but we have improved since the first day (of the floods).

"The point is we have to work together to overcome challenges during flood operations as the priority is to save lives," he said.
