JOHOR BARU: The Johor Palace has 4,000 boxes of basic necessities on standby to be distributed if major floods hit the state, says Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.
He added that district officers are already aware of their duties in the event of floods in their respective areas.
“Manpower, goods and shelter are ready to be deployed. The Johor Palace has 4,000 boxes of basic necessities on standby to be distributed. Aid will be added as needed,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Dec 23).
Meanwhile, the Johor Civil Defence Force issued a warning, as four rivers in Johor recorded an increase in its water level surpassing a dangerous level.
The rivers are Sungai Tangkak at Kampung Seri Makmur in Tangkak, Sungai Kesang in Telok Rimba also in Tangkak, Sungai Simpang Kanan in Batu Pahat and Sungai Sedili Kecil in Kota Tinggi.
On Wednesday, Tunku Ismail said has instructed all government agencies to be ready for floods with bad weather expected to hit the state soon.
He said that he has received reports of the weather forecast and water levels at several rivers in Johor.
Tunku Ismail then decreed that all district and government agency officers in the state to ensure all machinery, equipment and preparations were on standby and ready to be deployed anytime.
“All government agencies need to always monitor the latest situation from time to time to ensure Johor is prepared to face any possibility," he said.
“The related agencies must also inform the rakyat with real-time info swiftly if anything happens,” added Tunku Ismail.
Checks on the Malaysian Meteorological Department found the department has issued a thunderstorm warning for the state from Wednesday (Dec 22) until next Tuesday (Dec 28).
