Man loses pregnant wife, baby daughter in Penampang landslide

KOTA KINABALU: A 34-year-old man lost his pregnant wife and eight-month-old daughter in a landslide at the Forest Hill construction quarters in Penampang on Wednesday (Sept 15).

The man, Zul Azmil Omar, was out for work when the tragedy occurred.

Earlier, Sabah Fire and Rescue Department reported that Zul's wife, Salmah Hamid together with a five-year-old girl, Rosatima Asbirin, were the first two fatalities reported during the flash flood and landslides that occurred in Penampang and Kota Kinabalu districts.

However, it was learnt later that the couple's eight-month-old baby, named Dayana, was also killed.

"The last time I saw my wife was before I left for work. The next thing I know, someone called me around 3.40pm alerting me of the landslide.

"It took me a while to reach home due to flooded roads and I learnt about their deaths when I arrived," said the grieving husband and father.

Three other victims from the landslides are safe.

Kota Kinabalu district police deputy chief, Superintendent George Abd Rakman who was at the scene, confirmed the three deaths.
