Dr Wee congratulates Ismail Sabri as new PM, hopes M’sia will continue combating Covid-19 pandemic

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has expressed his hope for Malaysia to continue combating the Covid-19 pandemic, following the appointment of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the new Prime Minister.

In a Facebook post, the MCA president also congratulated Ismail Sabri on his appointment as the ninth Prime Minister following consent from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“Hopefully, with this appointment, Malaysia will be able to continue its efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic for the benefit and security of the people and the well-being of the country as expressed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” said the Ayer Hitam MP on Friday (Aug 20).

Meanwhile, Sabah MCA hopes that the new Prime Minister will serve as a fair leader to all Malaysians regardless of race and religion.

Its MCA chief Lu Yen Tung said Ismail Sabri must also steer the country towards economic recovery as it battles the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This is his responsibility and we hope all politicians can give him the support,” Lu said, congratulating Ismail Sabri in his appointment as the ninth Malaysian PM.

“Don’t let political mess influence our battles towards the Covid-19 pandemic and the recovery of our economy,” he added.
