Perak’s SOP compliance at 94%, says its top cop

IPOH: Compliance in the four sub-districts under the enhanced movement control order in Perak has been satisfactory, says the state’s top cop.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said so far, the compliance rate stood at about 94%.

He said on Saturday, 36 fines were issued for various offences due to non-compliance of the standard operating procedure (SOP).

“A total of 556 vehicles were also made to turn back.

“For a day or two during the implementation of the enhanced MCO, the police took the approach

of warning the community on the SOP in force.

“After that, no more chances

will be given and stern action will be taken against those who violate the laws and SOP, ” he said.

Checks at several housing areas here found that either parking cones or tape had been put up to prevent people from using back alleys or shortcuts.

With most business premises closed, there was hardly any vehicle in the city centre.

Comm Mior Faridalathrash also clarified that essential service workers in the sub-districts under the enhanced MCO were only required to present either a valid work pass or an employer’s authorisation letter.

He said prior to this, the SOP

stated that any worker living in enhanced MCO areas but working outside must first undergo a health screening at the closest health clinic.

“In accordance with the latest SOP, health screenings are no longer required. However, this applies to those going and coming back from work only, ” he said.
