Cops looking into festive-themed video that promotes gambling

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is investigating a Hari Raya-themed video which reportedly promotes online gambling.

The two-minute video went viral on social media on Thursday (April 15), triggering a backlash from netizens.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the police will zero in on the video's producer and actors.

"They will be called up for questioning.

"We are investigating under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 4(1)(g) of the Open Gaming House Act," he said in a statement on Friday (April 16).

The police will also cooperate with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in the investigation, he added.

Acryl Sani also called on the public not to share or spread the video on social media as it might cause public unrest.

"We hope the public will cooperate in this matter," he said.
