MELAKA: Political cooperation between Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional is expected to continue beyond the Melaka election, extending to the federal level, says PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
He said both coalitions are committed to resolving their differences, coordinating their election machinery and working towards future electoral victories.
“What is important is that our cooperation brings victory.
“The division of machinery can be carried out systematically,” he told reporters.
Asked whether efforts would be made to strengthen cooperation after the Melaka polls, Abdul Hadi said the arrangement would continue.
“We expect things to be better after gaining experience in Johor, Negri Sembilan and now, for the third time, in Melaka,” he said.
The cooperation, he added, could be extended to the federal level as well.
Abdul Hadi indicated that similar arrangements could be pursued in states such as Kelantan and Terengganu.
Meanwhile, Perikatan’s candidate for Ayer Keroh Datuk Seri Michael Gan Peng Lam said personal engagement would be central to winning support across the constituency’s different communities.
Facing a four-cornered contest, Gan pledged to avoid personal attacks and keep his campaign focused on what he could offer voters.
“I don’t believe in gutter politics and will avoid slandering my contenders,” he said.
He also acknowledged that Ayer Keroh would be a tough battle as Pakatan Harapan has fielded its incumbent.
Gan faces incumbent Kerk Chee Yee, Parti Bersama Malaysia’s Muhammad Muhaimin Lau Abdullah and Bersatu’s Mohd Hamnaim Mohamad.
