Extend CSA to more parties, says Zahid

ALOR GAJAH: The confidence and supply agreement (CSA) between Putrajaya and 13 opposition and independent MPs should be extended to other parties, whether they are in government or not, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Voicing support for the agreement, the Deputy Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman described the CSA as a good development and that the coalition supported its implementation.

“The CSA can be extended to other parties, regardless of whether they are on the government side or otherwise,” he said when asked about the agreement signed on Thursday.

The CSA was signed by six Bersatu MPs led by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, six former Bersatu MPs whom the party sacked in 2024 for backing the Federal Government, and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Under the agreement, they will back Budget 2027 and the government until the end of the current parliamentary term.

In return, they will receive constituency development allocations on par with government backbenchers.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said that no conditions would be imposed on opposition MPs who signed, and that other parties could come in if they accepted the same terms.

Ahmad Zahid pointed out that a similar arrangement had been made before, when an Umno representative was prime minister.

On Sept 2021, then prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s administration had signed the memorandum of understanding on transformation and political stability with then federal opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan.
