PETALING JAYA: Social media users and residents have expressed concern over the ongoing Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) construction project following the latest fatal accident.

Anna Tan, 47, a delivery agent from Cheras, said she would get nervous each time she had to drive along the construction route in Alam Damai.

“I drive to Alam Damai often to make deliveries and visit friends. It is scary to drive along the area especially during heavy rain, ” she said.

She noted that there had been times when traffic was guided by construction workers just metres away from where large cranes were hoisting heavy building materials.

“Just imagine being suddenly crushed to death by a large falling object. It is such a horrifying thought, ” Tan said.

A resident from nearby said he was shocked when he learnt of the fatal incident.

“It is scary. I was supposed to have driven along the same route where the accident happened this morning, ” he said.

The 45-year-old businessman, who declined to be named, said he was worried each time he drove past the construction site route.

“This is not the first time an accident happened near here.

“I was lucky to escape injury recently when a metal board fell near my car. Luckily the traffic light was red and cars had stopped moving when the board fell, ” he added.

Meanwhile, Not typical@JustinTWJ tweeted that he was also worried about having to drive near the construction site.

“I have to go along SUKE highway every day because it is very near my house and I fear for my life each time, ” he said in his post.

He also said he would usually slow down to allow some gap between his car and the next vehicle before quickly driving away from the construction area.

Facebook user Monisse Sam posted a comment relating to an incident when a construction worker suddenly stepped out of the worksite safety area while she was driving, giving her a fright.

“I usually say a prayer each time I pass through the construction site, ” she added.
