KUALA LUMPUR: Seven Yemeni men were arrested after they allegedly performed dangerous stunts while travelling in two vehicles along Jalan Sungai Besi here early Friday (Aug 28).
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident, which occurred at about 12.30am, came to light after a video of the incident went viral on Threads.
He said preliminary investigations found that both vehicles were travelling along Jalan Sungai Besi towards Jalan Bukit Bintang when the passengers allegedly leaned out of the vehicles and sat on the windows.
“All seven individuals were Yemeni men aged between 23 and 26.
“Five of them are students at a public university in Kedah, while the other two are university graduates,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 29).
ACP Mohd Zamzuri said police questioning found that the stunts were performed simply for fun while celebrating a friend’s wedding.
He added that all seven men involved were detained for further investigation before being released on police bail.
The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for committing a rash or negligent act that endangers the life or personal safety of others.
Those convicted face up to three months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM500, or both.
ACP Mohd Zamzuri also urged anyone with information or witnesses to the incident to assist investigations by contacting the Tun H S Lee Traffic Police Station or any nearby police station.
