IPOH: Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizuddin Shah has accepted the resignation of Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (pic) as the state's Mentri Besar.

In a statement, Comptroller of the Royal Household Col Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohamad Nor (R) said Faizal had presented Sultan Nazrin his resignation at Istana Kinta on Saturday (Dec 5) after losing the majority in the confidence motion.

"Faizal met with Sultan Nazrin at 3pm. Sultan Nazrin thanked Faizal for his service as Mentri Besar since May 12, 2018 and also thanked all the state executive council members for their services," he said.

Abdul Rahim added that this is in accordance with Clause (1) of Article XII, and paragraph (a) of Clause (2) of Article XVI (6), Part One of the state constitution of Perak Darul Ridzuan.

In the confidence motion filed by Umno assemblyman Datuk Abdul Hashim Manaf, Faizal gained only 10 votes in favor out of 59 Perak state seats.
