Chong pays tribute to women in politics and nation-building

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon paid tribute to the contributions of women in politics and national development.

Commending on the vital role played by women in Malaysia, he said the 44-year-old Wanita MCA would be given a wider role in the next general election after having been confined to doing background work.

He said research showed that the happiness index of a country would be in tandem with women’s participation in the government, citing Finland as an example where 42% of its representatives were females.

Chong said women representatives could take care of a wide range of matters that impacted men, women, children and the environment.

He also praised women for their ability to give a deeper insight on various matters compared to men.

Chong, who opened the Wanita MCA’s annual general meeting yesterday, noted that there had been many jokes about the Pakatan Harapan government these days.

There was always something funny about it on Facebook, he added.

The current hot topic, he said, is who will be the next Prime Minister.

“One is ready to be the PM, but another person is not ready to go,” he quipped, without naming names.

The tug of war had eroded investors’ confidence in the already flagging economy, he said.
