ECRL transit fare from Gombak to Kota Baru starts at RM125 one way

GOMBAK: A transit service of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) from the Gombak station to Kota Baru starts from RM125 one way, with concessions available for eligible categories.

The fare structure for the passenger service of ECRL, expected to open for commercial service by Dec 12 or earlier, was revealed at a press conference here Monday morning. (Oct 19).

In his briefing, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) CEO Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said the government had taken various views before arriving at the fare structure, which received Cabinet approval on Oct 16.

Stretching for 523km from Gombak, with the Gombak station next to the Gombak Integrated Transport Terminal, there will be two kinds of service: Transit, one that stops at every station and Express, a service that makes limited stops.

The express service stops only at KotaSAS (Kuantan) and Kuala Terengganu before arriving at Kota Baru, with the journey time at four hours from end to end.

The fare for the express service starts from RM147 one way, with dynamic pricing kicking in to push the fare upwards during periods of peak demand.

The corresponding fares for the Gombak to KotaSAS are RM60 (transit) and RM95 (express), while the trip to Kuala Terengganu costs RM95 (transit) and RM110 (express).

Ticket sales will begin mid-November, with further announcements to be made. Senior citizens, government pensioners, those with OKU cards, children up to 12, and students up to 24 years old will be eligible for discounted travel.
