PETALING JAYA: All state MCA chapters must strengthen their grassroots networks and prepare for the political challenges ahead with the general election looming, says party secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon (pic).
He said the public remains concerned about the cost of living, the economy, education and other livelihood issues.
“MCA will continue to listen to the views of the people and channel grassroots concerns to the central leadership through the party’s various levels of organisation,” Chong said in a statement yesterday.
Chong said this ahead of the party’s annual state conventions, which will be held simultaneously nationwide at 2pm on Sept 16, which is also Malaysia Day.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong will open all the conventions via livestream from the Yong Peng Che Ann Khor Moral Uplifting Association in his Ayer Hitam constituency in Johor.
Members that are gathered at venues in each state will follow the opening ceremony on screen.
Chong said Dr Wee will deliver an important speech, sharing his views with party members on the current political situation and national issues, as well as the direction the party is taking.
He said the conventions are a key event on the party calendar, bringing together the national leadership, state leaders and grassroots members.
“The gatherings will provide an opportunity to review our work and exchange views on how the party should move forward.”
Chong urged members in every state to attend the conventions in large numbers and speak up on party affairs and political issues, including matters affecting their respective areas.
“This will further strengthen the party’s organisation and its ties with the grassroots, while ensuring that grassroots concerns are effectively conveyed to the national leadership,” he said.
