KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) has called on those abroad to continue following him online as he delivers his winding-up speech at the 2026 Umno General Assembly later on Saturday (Sept 12).

The Umno president is believed to be responding to a social media post by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is currently in India on an official visit.

“Thank you for taking the time to follow my policy speech yesterday, whether you are in the country or abroad.

“God willing, I will deliver my winding-up speech this afternoon. Please continue to stay with me, wherever you are,” he said in a social media post.

The post came after Ahmad Zahid, in his presidential speech on Friday (Sept 11), took a jab at his “guru” to stop ignoring the grievances and concerns of the people.

Although he did not name the leader, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, is believed to be referring to Anwar.

The reference to “guru” was linked to a leaked telephone conversation between Zahid and Anwar in April 2021, during which Ahmad Zahid referred to Anwar as “cikgu”, or teacher.

In response, Anwar said “guru” had safely arrived in New Delhi, India, to represent Malaysia on the world stage at the 18th BRICS Summit.

Anwar is scheduled to attend the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit opening session on Sunday (Sept 13), where the Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver a National Statement on Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth.
