CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Independent candidate Wong Seng Yee says the outcome of the by-election no longer matters.
Met after casting his ballot at SJKC Bertam Valley here on Saturday (Jan 26), the 40-year-old said he has already spread his message across to the voters.
"But if I win, I will fulfil my responsibility as an elected representative.
"If I lose, I will also continue to serve the people socially through my non-governmental organisation," he said.
"I am willing to work alongside the winner so that Cameron Highlands can be developed.
"I hope the elected MP will work to resolve the issues here," he added.
Wong said he has learned a lot during the two-week campaign.
"I've heard a lot of issues. Though I was unable to go into all the areas, I was surprised that the orang asli in Jelai received me well," he said.
"They dubbed me 'abang topi' (Hat Brother). They also got the message I spoke on during the live debate and was curious to learn more about new technology and modern farming," he added.
The Cameron Highlands parliamentary by-election is being held after the Election Court declared the victory of Datuk C. Sivarraajh from Barisan in the 14th General Election (GE14), null and void for vote-buying.
Wong will face Barisan Nasional's Ramli Mohd Nor, Pakatan Harapan's M. Manogaran and independent candidate Sallehudin Ab Talib for the parliamentary seat here.
