1,148 cops to ensure all goes well

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Some 1,148 personnel have been deployed to ensure security, and voters here can come out to cast their ballots without worry, said Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Zakaria Ahmad.

From a security standpoint, he said, the situation has been calm and controlled throughout the campaign period.

“Therefore, I urge all Cameron Highlands voters to vote without fear,” he said.

Since the start of the campaign period from Jan 12 until Jan 25, Comm Mohd Zakaria said 29 police reports had been lodged and one investigation paper opened.

Several cases on election bribery and misuse of government buildings and vehicles have been referred to the Election Commission (EC), the state police chief said.

“Most of these cases are interconnected, and we have taken action on all of them by referring them to the appropriate authorities.”
