Umno Youth to mull sentiments on the ground

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth will study the sentiment on the ground in Semenyih before deciding whether to offer a candidate from the wing.

Its chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the wing wants to ensure that the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Semenyih by-election would be one accepted by the voters.

“We have sent out a team to learn the sentiment of the people (of Semenyih) and the grassroots there, just like how we did in Cameron Highlands and the findings will be given to Umno and BN leaders.

“The sentiment we want to know is from the people, not just Umno Youth. Every time there is an election, we do have a candidate we feel should be chosen.

“We don’t want to syok sendiri (be full of oneself),” Asyraf told the media after Umno Youth’s first executive committee meeting for 2019 at the Umno building here yesterday.

On the Cameron Highlands by-­election, he said Umno Youth would step up efforts in Tanah Rata and Jelai.

He hoped voters will rally behind Barisan’s candidate Ramli Mohd Nor, who is an orang asli and a retired senior cop.
