BUTTERWORTH: More than 100 taxi and rental car driver in Penang gathered for a peaceful protest against e-hailing services.
Spokesperson C. Supramaniam urged the government to ensure a level playing field between taxis and private cars.
"The current situation has greatly affected our livelihood.
"Now, in a day, we are only able to make between RM30 to RM40 from an entire day of work.
"How are we suppose to survive?" he said to reporters during the gathering at Datuk Haji Ahmad Badawi field in Bagan Luar on Wednesday (Dec 19).
The gathering took place at 9am, with many cab drivers holding aloft manila cards inscribed with pleas for stringent regulation to be imposed on Grab drivers like the way it is applied on taxi drivers in the country.
The group dispersed by around 10am as it began to rain heavily.
