PORT DICKSON: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has asked his critics to at least give him credit for not using government machinery while campaigning.
The Pakatan Harapan candidate said the critics should not pick on petty matters such as him attending dinners or taking a ride in a minister’s car.
He said this is the first election where government machinery was not used by a candidate whose party formed the government.
“No ministers came here and announced financial allocations for the district. No roads were resurfaced, no promises were made to build schools and no perimeter walls of mosques were painted.
“Please, at least give credit where it’s due,” he said here yesterday.
Anwar said his wife and Deputy Prime Minister Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail used a private car when campaigning for him.
“But if you think I have done wrong, I apologise ... I will accept advice given in good faith,” he said.
Anwar appealed to voters here to accept him as a “family member”.
“I have decided to contest here to make PD my main station,” he added.
On another matter, Anwar said former minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz was entitled to express her opinion on politics as she “gives good advice”.
He said Rafidah had experience on such matters and Pakatan would consider her views.
“There is nothing wrong with her airing her views,” he said when met at Kedai Pernama here.
Rafidah said that Pakatan need not be shackled by the pledges it made in its GE14 election manifesto.
She said it was unfortunate that Pakatan leaders had to backtrack on some good decisions due to their manifesto.
Citing an example, she said one such decision was the plan to have Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad be the education minister as well.
However, the proposal was dropped.
“Why? Why? Why? Your stupid manifesto stopped you, is it?” she was quoted as saying during the “Malaysia: A New Dawn” conference in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
