Man, 29, remanded seven days in septic tank murder probe

BALIK PULAU: A 29-year-old man has been remanded on Wednesday (Sept 26) for allegedly killing his 63-year-old mother and dumping her body in a septic tank in Kampung Sungai Burung here.

Magistrate Nur Azzuin Abdul Moati granted a seven-day remand order, ending on Oct 2 for the accused to assist with the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan was quoted as saying on Tuesday (Sept 25), that the suspect confessed that no one else was involved in the incident.

"Early investigation showed that the suspect killed his mother after an argument in the kitchen of their house.

"When he committed the act, the suspect was believed to have been high after sniffing petrol.

"After stabbing his mother in the neck with a knife, he then placed the body in the septic tank," said Supt Anbalagan, adding that they also found a bloodstained knife, believed to be the murder weapon, near the septic tank.

On Monday (Sept 24), police recovered the body of Faridah Mat Hashim.

The woman's son-in-law found the body and alerted the police.
