PETALING JAYA: A group of 10 Malaysians in Tibet known as 'Team Loe' who have not been contactable since floods hit Rasuwa, Nepal are believed to have been in a valley when floodwaters hit.
According to reports, Malaysian Recreation Council chairman Muhamad Nur Azrul Che Zabani claimed to have received information about from the operator who handled their trip and said the group boarded two four-wheel drive vehicles from Kathmandu headed to the Nepal-Tibet border.
He said the route they were taking was along a valley and in the path of the water.
"My analysis says they were hit by very high water levels … because this area is a valley.
"When the water table rose, their vehicle was still 81km away from the Nepal-Tibet border.
"The operator did not receive any further news from them," he said when contacted on Thursday (Aug 27), according to reports.
However, he said, the group would be safe if they managed to clear the border before the water surge hit at 9am or 10am.
The Nepalese government and rescue teams are actively conducting rescue operations in the disaster area.
However he said the terrain in the area was treacherous and dangerous for rescuers.
