KUALA LUMPUR: Two Fire and Rescue Department officers are among Malaysians who remain uncontactable following flash floods in Rasuwa, Nepal.
Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad confirmed the matter.
The two officers are professional climber Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, who is also a member of the department's special forces team. and senior Fire and Rescue Department officer Mohd Sani Harul.
Nor Hisham said they were part of a group of 10 Malaysians travelling towards Everest Base Camp (EBC) after departing for Nepal on Monday (Aug 24)night.
"They were travelling towards EBC. They were not climbing but trekking and travelling by jeep along the Tibetan route," he said when contacted on Thursday (Aug 27).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has previously ordered relevant authorities to immediately coordinate assistance following the devastating floods in Nepal and India.
He said all relevant agencies, including the National Security Council and the Foreign Ministry, hadbeen instructed to assess the situation and contact Malaysia's embassies in India and Nepal to expedite efforts to assist those affected.
The directive comes amid growing concern over more than 50 Malaysian travellers in Nepal who have reportedly been unreachable by their families since floods struck the country.
