KUALA LUMPUR: As another police report was lodged against Datuk A. Kadir Jasin for his blog post on the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V, a former media personality has stepped up to say that the latter must be given a chance to prove his claims.
KLCC Umno branch chief Datuk Seri Dzulkarnain Taib, who was accompanied by NGOs Voice of Malaysian Citizens Foundation and Pertubuhan Ikatan Usahawan Melayu Malaysia, lodged the report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 4pm yesterday.
“His post can incite hatred towards our Malay Rulers,” he said, urging Kadir to resign as spokesman for the Council of Eminent Persons.
He said those in the Pakatan government who asked the police to drop their sedition probe against Kadir should follow the rule of law “as preached by them and allow the police to investigate”.
Kadir, a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia supreme council member, highlighted on his blog the funds spent for the upkeep and personal expenditure of Sultan Muhammad in the 16 months since he became the King.
Meanwhile, former Media Prima chairman and Utusan Malaysia editor-in-chief Tan Sri Johan Jaafar spoke up for Kadir, saying no citizen must be threatened and intimidated by laws meant to silence them.
“Kadir probably got his numbers wrong or made remarks deemed ‘disparaging’ by some people in his blog posting.
“But he must be given the chance to prove his facts and must be held responsible for his statement,” he said.
Johan said he was disturbed by the Inspector-General of Police’s statement that Kadir would be investigated under the Sedition Act.
