Yes, we’re probing FGV, says MACC

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that investigations are underway over alleged improprieties involving Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV).

Its deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki said anti-graft officers were in the midst of gathering more information, though no arrests in relation to the case have been made so far.

“Yes, we are on it. As long as it involves corruption or abuse of power, we will carry out a thorough probe.

“We have received some information about issues in FGV, and will ascertain those that fall under our jurisdiction,” Azam said in response to the latest developments involving FGV.

However, he declined to reveal the nature of the information passed on to MACC, saying that the anti-graft body would first study the details before taking the next course of action.

Yesterday, FGV group president and CEO Datuk Zakaria Arshad and its chief financial officer Ahmad Tifli Mohd Talha were asked to go on an indefinite leave of absence with immediate effect.

Azam also urged those with information related to any discrepancies involving FGV to come forward.

“We will also request him (Zakaria) to meet us soon so that he can give us information to assist our investigations.

“Our focus is solely on corruption, and has nothing to do with the personal matters of any party,” he said.
