Traffic jams as polling stations open

KUALA KANGSAR: Traffic was snarled up on the roads leading to polling centres here as voters came out to choose their Member of Parliament.

The streets of this royal town, which are usually clear on weekends, were congested with vehicles and pedestrians.

Vehicles on the single-lane road leading to Manong, where several polling stations were located and a minor accident happened, were backed up for several kilometres.

Traffic was also slow in downtown Kuala Kangsar near the polling centres at SJKC Tsung Wah and SMK Clifford.

Worsening the jams were booths set up by the various parties canvassing for votes.

Many also stopped to watch Barisan Nasional candidate Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid – who was appearing in public for the first time since the death of her husband, the Kuala Kangsar MP – cast her ballot.
