Liow: Trespass issue to be tackled at the highest level

SEKINCHAN: The issue of alleged trespass by Malaysian fishermen into Indonesian waters will be tackled at the highest level by the two countries, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pic).

He said the fishermen were accused of being on the wrong side of the border and detained by Indonesian authorities.

“But according to them they were in Malaysian waters and were dragged there by Indonesian marine authorities,” he said.

“We will solve this issue at the highest level,” he said yesterday.

Liow also noted that Malaysia would increase its sea patrols to ensure the safety of local fishermen.
