KUALA KANGSAR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed his gratitude to Chinese voters in both Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar for helping to give Barisan Nasional big wins in both by-elections.
“As the Barisan coordinator for both the by-elections, I would like to thank the voters in Sungai Besar, especially the Chinese voters in Sekinchan and Pekan Sungai Besar, who returned to give their trust to the Barisan candidate.
“Similarly, I would like to thank Chinese voters in Kuala Kangsar who have also started to give their trust to Barisan,” the Deputy Prime Minister and Umno vice-president said after the official results of the by-election was announced by the Election Commission at Dewan Jubli Perak here last night.
Dr Ahmad Zahid also thanked all Barisan component parties for their close cooperation during the election campaign.
Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the victories were an important endorsement of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s leadership.
“It’s a motivation for us to work as a team and work according to the spirit of Barisan,” he said.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir attributed Kuala Kangsar’s victory to great teamwork.
“Our unity resulted in something very successful. This is about team effort and each and every one of us here contributed to this victory,” he said.
New Kuala Kangsar MP Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid said her victory was for the people, as they were the real winners of the by-election.
She also dedicated her win to her late husband and former Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Dr Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad.
“Without his good work and the love for the people of Kuala Kangsar, I will not be where I am today,” she told a press conference at her house.
