Increased police presence comforts the public

KUALA LUMPUR: Many people are saying that they draw comfort from the increased presence of policemen in public areas.

Legal executive Aimi Nurhaneem, 28, said their presence provides an assurance of safety to the public.

“With the police going around and monitoring public areas, it shows that our safety is well cared for,” she said, noting that there were more police around when she was at a shopping complex in Bangsar during the weekend.

She said the police presence helps ease her concerns about possible terror attacks.

“It’s also good in a way, the public can be alert as well,” Aimi added.

Writer Rohini Pathmanathan, 30, said that having more of the uniformed men around was reassuring.

“I think it’s very comforting to see policemen in areas where there is a lot of human traffic, such as in Bukit Bintang.”

“This assures me that if something untoward were to happen, their response would be immediate,” she said.

In Alor Setar, police units could be seen patrolling crowded areas yesterday and several foreign workers were hauled up in Jalan Tunku Ibrahim and at the Shahab Perdana Express Bus Terminal.
