Azalina: No dress code but keep with tradition and values

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no specific dress code for the public to observe when dealing with government agencies.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (pic) said only civil servants were subjected to dress code, which would be updated from time to time.

"The public can wear appropriate clothing which is in line with tradition and eastern values when going to government offices," Azalina told Datuk Dr Makin @Marcus Mojigoh (Putatan-BN) in Parliament.

Dr Makin had asked if the government has set a dress code for the public to deal with departments and government agencies, what if they fail to abide by it, the kind of action that would be taken and the people's reaction.

Azalina said the government would still attend to those who wore inappropriately and the department head can advise the person to dress appropriately in future.

The issue of dressing went public after several women were asked to cover their legs before entering government premises such as the Balik Pulau court complex, the Selangor state secretariat building, the Sungai Buloh hospital and the Gombak Road Transport Department (JPJ).

The women were asked to wear a sarong by the security guards or were not allowed in.
