PORT DICKSON: A victory in Negri Sembilan could pave the way towards uniting Malay and non-Malay political parties in a bid to take over Putrajaya, says PAS vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad.
In urging both Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional supporters to support each other in seats where either is not contesting, he said this will see them forming the government easily.
“It’s just a simple formula. If this materialises, it will not just be a simple majority, but two-thirds. We must ensure all registered voters return home to cast their ballots,” he said during a joint ceramah between Barisan and Perikatan leaders on Wednesday (July 22).
Both Barisan and Perikatan are in an electoral understanding for the Negri Sembilan state polls. He added that Perikatan’s manifesto is also similar to Barisan's, reflecting a collective understanding among each other.
“We must be determined to make a change in the political scene in the state,” he said.
Idris also criticised the Pakatan Harapan leadership’s decision to constantly attack Umno during the Johor state elections, showing that the coalition did not value the latter’s contributions.
“It was Umno who enabled you (Pakatan) to hold the Prime Minister and Mentri Besar posts. You both sit in the government together yet you (Pakatan) do not recognise their contributions,” he said.
Barisan is contesting 25 seats at the state polls, while Perikatan is contesting 11. Pakatan, meanwhile, is contesting all 36 seats while Bersatu is going solo, contesting 24 seats.
Polling day is set for Aug 1.
