Two more Fridays till Melaka assembly dissolution, says Ab Rauf

MELAKA: The state legislative assembly is likely to be dissolved after Sept 18, paving the way for Melaka polls, says Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

The Melaka Chief Minister hinted that the announcement was imminent.

“I said the other day that there were four Fridays to go, but now only two remain,” he said on Monday (Sept 7)

His remarks came a day after Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged Ab Rauf to expedite the dissolution of the state assembly to clear the way for the polls.

On Sunday (Sept 6), Ahmad Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president, said the announcement should not be delayed for too long as voters, particularly young people, should be allowed to determine the state’s direction and future.

The last state election was held on Nov 20, 2021, with Barisan securing 21 of the 28 seats in the assembly while Pakatan Harapan won five seats and Perikatan Nasional took two.
