A NEWLY married man ended up in hospital with head injuries after an argument over 40 rupees (RM1.70) with employees of a liquor shop, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Identified only as Govindaraj, the man had bought 20 bottles of liquor from a state-operated shop for friends and relatives a the wedding dinner in Tiruvannamalai city, Tamil Nadu.
After the event, he went to return the empty bottles which could be exchanged for 10 rupees (42sen) each as part of a government recycling scheme.
However, the employees at the outlet only gave him eight rupees (34sen) per bottle, which led to an argument.
The store employees, who had been overwhelmed with work after another state-run outlet was closed down, got angry and attacked Govindaraj with liquor bottles.
He collapsed before being rescued by bystanders who rushed him to hospital.
