PETALING JAYA: Today the nation mourns as Kucing Happy, arguably Malaysia's most popular social media persona, officially bids farewell to all his fans.
"We believe that happiness starts from deep inside ... myself. Because I am Kucing Happy," the anthropomorphic gray-and-white cat said in a YouTube video posted by Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) on Tuesday.
"Like all that is 'best', this too must end. I know a lot of you have tweeted and posted your wishes to me, but I am just an ordinary cat of exceptional cuteness, full of calibre, amazing and with the ability to speak. I cannot respond to everyone but please know that I consider you my closest online friends," he said before getting teary-eyed.
Many netizens were 'feline' sad after Kuching Happy's farewell message and had gone to Twitter to share their grief.
"I feel sad this morning when I got to know that #KucingHappy is ending," said user @azalisaim.
"It is sad that #KuchingHappy is ending. I cannot believe that it has been a month with the Happy department," added @naimseven.
Nevertheless, Kucing Happy said that there was a possibility of him returning. Maybe.
According to "Department" statistics, 99,999 people have thus far been "happied".
For the uninitiated, Kucing Happy is BSN's mascot for its 40th anniversary. His duties as the director of the Happy Department include to "meng-happy-kan" the public by answering requests posed on social media with the accompanying hashtag #KucingHappy.
Soon after the first video was published on March 20, Kuching Happy's popularity within the Malaysian Internet community soared, with many social media users sending in requests and wishes.
While few actually get their requests fulfilled, the sarcastic tie-wearing tomcat nevertheless complied to the public's appeals by providing his own interpretations and solutions of what would make them happy.
KucingHappy welcomed all wishes, whether it was to be gifted with a palace, to have a "badan sado" (muscular body) or to ask for a "sports wheelbarrow".
To cater to the barrage of pleas from fans across Malaysia, Kucing Happy even had a team of "dedicated and hardworking" tie-wearing feline staff. He was also assisted with a fish bowl, who prefers to be called by his given name, Samsuddin.
However, not all the requests were responded to in a light-hearted manner. In a special edition episode posted on Apr 23, Kuching Happy sent a team of human assistants to provide aid to three fans suffering from serious medical complications.
