Yuna wins big at AIM awards

KUALA LUMPUR: New singer-songwriter Yuna was the big winner at the prestigious Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) awards, bagging four major honours.

Yuna, whose real name is Yunalis Zarai, won Best Song and Best Pop Song for her own composition Dan Sebenarnya.

She also took home the Best New Artiste award and Best Local English song for Deeper Conversation during the star-studded affair at the Putra World Trade Centre here last night.

Singer Faizal Tahir won the coveted Best Album award for his work called Adrenalin. The album was also named Best Rock Album.

Pop diva Datuk Siti Nurhaliza clinched two awards – Best Vocal Performance (Female) for her song Ku Percaya Ada Cinta and Best Group Vocal Performance for her duet with Indonesian songbird Kris Dayanti in Amarah.

Dayang Nurfaizah grabbed the Best Pop Album award for Dayang Live while singer-songwriter and also vocal coach Hazami won Best Vocal Performance (Male) for his own composition Survivor.

Hip Hop star DJ Fuzz and Malique won Best Hip Hop Album while Disagree won Best Local English Album for their album titled To Prevent the Earth from Moving With You.

Nasyid group Inteam won Best Nasyid Album for Allahu Rabbi.

Punk-rock outfit Bunkface was given the Kembara award for their work in bringing local music to the global scene.

The band also won Best Rock Song for Situasi.

Karen Kong won the Best Local Chinese Album award for I’m Karen while 15-year-old Shruthi Jayashankar won Best Local Indian Album for her effort in Life Is A Mystery.

The AIM organisers presented the Anugerah Wirama to songwriter Adnan Abu Hassan as a recognition of his contributions to the music industry for the past 35 years.

He is the man behind big names such as Siti Nurhaliza and Misha Omar.

Twenty-four awards were given during the show.
